Session Information
Maternity
A Maternity shoot is a great distraction and a chance to take time out to spoil yourself. It gives you a excuse to buy a couple of cute outfits or accessories, pamper yourself a little and spend a few hours on the couch combing through Pinterest, trying to work out what kind of Maternity shoot you would like.
I usually prefer to photograph bellies outdoors or as a lifestyle shoot at the family home. This keeps the shoots simple and natural rather than having to revert to overly posed studio shots. It also allows me to capture what is important which is the bond between you and baby-to-be and the excitement you feel about getting to meet them.
You can wear as little or as much as you feel comfortable with for your maternity shoot, however a light, flowy slip would suit the best.
Just remember that you want to show off your bump, so try to avoid big baggy jumpers.
Most people tend to want to wait until just before they pop to have their maternity photographs taken, however there are two reasons why this is not ideal. The first being that your little one might decide to come early so that you miss out on getting your belly photographs. The second reason is that most of the time you don’t want to leave the house during those last few weeks. You want your belly to be large but not at the OMG, This Baby is Coming stage, typically your 7th or 8th month of pregnancy is best, around 34-36 weeks.
When it comes to your maternity shoot it is important to keep it simple so that the natural beauty of a mother anticipating the arrival of her child can be captured in a way that allows the miracle to speak for itself. Pregnancy doesn’t require anything else in the photograph to help tell it’s story. Everything in the frame that may not belong will simply serve to distract from the story that’s already being told, naturally.
Cake Smash!
If you want something different to a cake we can discuss together an option that would better suit your baby like a Fruit Smash or a Confetti Throw! Please also inform me of any dietary needs that may affect your bub.
Outfits
If you have a favourite outfit you want your child in, feel free to tell me about it and bring it to the session. I provide different outfits and props for each individual session so there is always a range of options for your munchkins special session!
